Posta Uganda in collaboration with Uganda Stop TB network (USTP), World Health Organization and the National TB & Leprosy programme launched the USTP stamp issue at a colorful ceremony held at the General Post Office. The function was presided over by the acting Director General of Health Services, Dr. Kyabaggu who stood in for the Minister of Health, Hon. Major Gen. (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi.
The stamp issue was made specifically to highlight the three life threatening diseases in Uganda and the world over which are Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and Leprosy and the theme for the launch was:
Become an agent of change…Fight the cycle of stigma. Simply say it with a stamp!
The launch was also attended by a cross section of stakeholders in the Health and Communications sectors notable among which were Ms. Rosamunde Lewis, the WHO country representative and Mr. Patrick Masambu, the Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission.
The stamp Issue consists of a set of six stamps and each stamp costs only Uganda shillings 400. On the stamps are images of two elderly male Leprosy patients, a TB infected mother who passed it on to her baby also in the stamps; these two are currently in hospital undertaking treatment.
The last two bear two TB/HIV middle-aged male patients who unfortunately passed on before the launch of the stamps.
