Fundado em 2/10/1916, o Zoológico de San Diego – Califórnia, Estados Unidos (EUA), é conhecido por ser um dos parques onde os animais se sentem mais à vontade, acomodados em um ambiente muito parecido com seu hábitat natural.
O zoológico tem mais de 3.800 animais de 800 espécies diferentes, em uma área de 400 mil m², como: girafas-masai, girafas-reticuladas, ocapis, rinoceronte-negro, rinoceronte-indiano e muito mais...
Em uma ala separada, no “Wild Animal Park”, localizada a 80 quilômetros da sede do zoológico, os visitantes podem ver animais selvagens soltos em uma reserva com cerca de 7 km².

The Wgasa Bush Line, a silent electronic monorail, skirts the edge of the savanna and offers five miles of unobstructed views of elefantes, antílopes, rinocerontes e girafas.
O zoológico ganhou um novo membro na família de girafas-masai. Uma nova fêmea chegou ao mundo às 7 horas da manhã, em 17 de Outubro.
After a preliminary examination Thursday morning, veterinarians determined the 141 pound, 6-foot-tall baby giraffe is in excellent condition. She is the fourth offspring to her 10-year-old mother Twiga, who weighs in at more than 1.600 pounds and is approximately 17 feet tall.
The newborn, who has yet to be named, is sticking close to her mother's side. She's still a little bit wobbly on her new legs, but seems to be getting used to them quite quickly as she has been observed testing a full, but somewhat shaky gallop.
She and her mother are together on exhibit at the San Diego Zoo, but temporarily separated from the rest of the 8-member group while the baby gets accustomed to her new surroundings.
There are nine different subspecies of giraffes living throughout Africa. A girafa Masai é nativa do sul do Quênia e Tanzânia. This newborn marks the first giraffe born at the San Diego Zoo in two years, and incidentally the Zoo is expecting another calf in about a week or two.

The 100-acre World-Famous San Diego Zoo is operated by the not-for-profit Zoological Society of San Diego. The Zoological Society, dedicated to the conservation of endangered species and their habitats, engages in conservation and research work around the globe.
The Zoological Society also manages the 1,800-acre San Diego Wild Animal Park (more than half of which has been set aside as protected native species habitat) and the Center for Reproduction of Endangered Species (CRES), and is working to establish field stations in five key ecological areas world-wide.

During the early morning hours of Nov. 27, animal keepers at the World-Famous San Diego Zoo witnessed an amazing and much-anticipated birth of a Masai giraffe.
With a six-foot drop from her 16-foot-tall mother, a newborn female landed in a bundle, rising to her feet shortly after birth. Weighing a whopping 143 pounds at birth and measuring 5-feet-10 inches tall, the newborn named “Milenna” is in excellent condition.
She's the fifth calf for her 16-year-old mother “Abby”. For the meantime, Milenna and Abby will get acquainted in an enclosure separated from the rest of the 7-member group, as the mother is quite protective of her newborn.
However, keepers said Milenna's half-sister “Leila” has already shown a lot of curiosity toward the calf, and are certain the two will become bosom buddies once the duo are introduced to the rest of the herd. Leila is the Zoo's other giraffe youngster, who's six weeks Milenna's senior.
