Park is a mix of rolling savannah, woodlands, rivers and hills. Its main attractions are game viewing, birdwatching, hiking and walking and fishing in the rivers.

Existem as seguintes espécies: Bohor Reedbuck, antílope Roan, búfalo, leopardo, o gato serval e hiena, assim como diversas espécies de aves. There are also rare Rothschilds Giraffe and Jackson' Hartebeest.

Ruma National Park, outside Homa Bay is a remote and seldom visited park. In fact, visitors here often have the whole park to themselves. In the thick bush of Ruma, two very rare species of antelope are found, the large Roan and the tiny Oribi.

Private transport is needed to access and explore the Park, and some of the island lodges can organize safaris. Just outside Kisumu, a sanctuary has been created for several large populations of Impala.

The three islands of Mfangano, Rusinga and Takawiri are all peaceful natural havens, with hippos wallowing offshore, Vervet monkeys and monitor lizards on the shore, and fish eagles soaring overhead. The island lodges organize nature and bird walks.

Acomodação: Não há hotel ou lodge neste parque, mas dois campsites.

Lago Vitória

Localização do Lago Vitória.

At Kenya's Western frontier lies the great expanse of Lake Victoria. This massive (67,493 sq kms) lake, commonly known as Nyanza, is twice the size of Wales, and forms a natural boundary between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The lake is the heart of the African continent, the source of its mightiest river, the Nile. In the 19th century the riddle of the Nile was one of the great enigmas of African exploration. After many expeditions failed, John Hanning Speke finally reached these shores in 1858. The Nile flows northwards, carrying the waters of Nyanza to Egypt and beyond into the Mediterranean.

This mighty body of water is rich in fish life, with shimmering shoals of colourful cichlids and large Nile Perch. Nyanza province is the heartland of the Luo, a tribe known as formidable fisherman. Fishing brings many visitors to this lake, mainly in search of the Nile Perch, considered a world class game fish. There are three separate fishing lodges on islands within Victoria.

Kisumu is a quiet port town on the Lakeshore, with wide streets and fine colonial architecture. To the south fishing villages line the lake towards the broad waters of Homa Bay. This area is home to Ruma National Park, a small but attractive park with many unique species.

Parque Nacional da Ilha Ndere (Ndere Island National Park)

Com 4,2km², é administrada pelo Kenya Wildlife Services.

It is only 4.2sq kms an island just off the northern shore of Lake Victoria, aberto em novembro de 1986.

Ndere means 'Meeting Place' in the language of the local Luo tribe. According to Luo folklore, Kit Mikayi, mother of the tribe, rested up near Ndere after her long journey south down the Nile Valley. She found the lush shoreline so pleasing that she and her people stayed.

It is home to a variety of birds including fish eagles and a dense population of swifts. Hippo and crocodiles, including the lesser known Spotted Crocodiles, are a familiar sight. 50 impala have been introduced to the woodland which fringes the shores.

Attractions include hiking, walking, traditional fishing, boat safaris and picnics. No accommodation is available.
