Lá vivem zulus, hindus, dutchs, portugueses e chineses.

A parte norte da província, faz fronteira com o sul da Suazilândia, is típica savana africana, providing a natural backdrop for its rica vida selvagem, protected in several game parques.
Some of South Africa's best-protected indigenous coastal forests are found along the subtropical coastline of KwaZulu-Natal, for example at Dukuduku and Kosi Bay. It is also along this coast that the magnificent St Lucia Estuary and Kosi Bay lakes are located.
Durban is one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the world. KwaZulu-Natal é uma província única com uma monarquia especificamente provided for in its Constitution.
The people — KwaZulu-Natal tem uma grande população in the country with some nine million people living on 92.100 km2 of land. For our Reinado de Zulu is a many-splendoured interaction of natural wonders, ultra-modern facilities, fascinating cultural imprints and reminders of a dynamic history. Gateway to this unique holiday destination is the Buzz of coastal Africa's ultimate pleasure-palace... the sophisticated and cosmopolitan, vibrant harbour-city of Durban.
a territorialidade.

'Imfolozi' the heart of the Zulu Kingdom, the home of the White Rhino, where wilderness trails take you along mighty rivers wandering through thorn savannah inhabited by the big five of African legend. Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park is the oldest game reserve in Africa proclaimed in 1895. It was the exclusive hunting preserve of the Zulu kings who protected the area by proclaiming conservation laws long before any formal protection.
As the home of "Operation Rhino" in the 1950s and 60s, the Park became world renowned for its White Rhino conservation. Other areas of focus for which it is famed include its wilderness trails which origionated in Imfolozi in the 1950s and its renowned Game Capture unit recently upgraded into the Centenary Capture Centre which is a bench mark for animal capture and sustainable utilization in Africa.
Hluhluwe Imfolozi covers some 96.000 ha and an immense diversity of fauna and flora occurs in this region. Imfolozi, the southern component of the park lies west of the town of Mtubatuba. The region is generally hot in summer, and mild to cool in winter, although cold spells do occur. Larger mammals to be seen include buffalo, blue wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, elephant, and large numbers of impala, waterbuck, common and mountain reedbuck, nyala, kudu, bushbuck, steenbuck, duiker, warthog, black rhino, lion, leopard, cheetah, hyaena and jackal.

Reserva Mkuzi ou Mkhuze Game Reserve
Aqui foram introduzidas girafas entre 1948 a 1965. Nesta área protegida encontramos 200 girafas, aproximadamente.
Situated on the North-eastern Kwazulu Natal, Mkuzi covers an area of 34000ha. of open savanna woodland and riverine forest. The hide at Nsumo Pan is the ideal spot where to spend a couple of hours watching the Hippos, Crocodiles and other game coming down to drink.
A place of great beauty and high contrasts, Mkhuze is renowned as a mecca for bird lovers, with more than 420 bird species on record. The reserve has an astonishing diversity of natural habitats, from the eastern slopes of the Lebombo mountains along its eastern boundary, to broad stretches of acacia savannah, swamps and a variety of woodlands and riverine forest. A rare type of sand forest also occurs in the reserve.
Two beautiful pans, Nhlonhlela and Nsumo, lie in the north and east respectively, home to communities of hippo, crocodile, pinkbacked and white pelicans, as well as a diversity of ducks and geese which gather in spring. Situated in northern Zululand, this 40 000 hectare reserve was proclaimed a protected area in 1912. Mkhuze Game Reserve constitutes the north western spur of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park a recently declared World Heritage Site.
The Mkhuze River curves along the reserve's northern and eastern borders with a fine stretch of fig forest along its banks. Fish eagles swoop over the pans, snatching prey spotted from their perches in the fever trees. Other animals to be found in the reserve include black and white rhinoceros, elephant, giraffe, leopard, nyala, blue wildebeest, warthog, eland, impala, kudu and other smaller antelope. Rare species occurring are cheetah, hyaena and suni. A Zulu cultural village in the reserve offers a glimpse of the traditional lifestyle and crafts of the KwaJobe community.
Natal Parks Board

Northern Kwazulu Natal, next to the Mozambique border. Reserva Ophathe
Drained by the White Mfolozi River, the reserve offers spectacular scenery with highland grassveld on the ridges and valley bushveld in the steep river valleys. Established in 1989, this is one of the newest of KwaZulu-Natal's game reserves.
A re-introduction programme is underway with the following large mammals already present. Black rhino, leopard, hyaena, eland, zebra, blue wildebeest, baboon, giraffe, waterbuck, nyala, bushbuck, mountain reedbuck, common reedbuck and a small population of klipspringer.
The Reserve is situated in the heartland of the Zulu empire of Shaka and Dingaan which adds an additional dimension with many historic sites such as Kwa-Bulawayo, Ulundi and Ungungundlovu only a short drive away. There are game viewing roads and walking is permitted at your own risk.
Reserva Natural Phongolo
Falling from the heights of the Lebombo Mountains down across the Phongolopoort Dam to typical african savannah in the west, this reserve is the oldest proclaimed conservation area in Africa.
Proclaimed on the 13th of June 1894 by President Paul Kruger and reproclaimed in 1903, ostensively to protect declining game numbers, but in reality as a stratagy for the old Transvaal Republic to gain access to the sea, the reserve contains a large number of special ecosystems and habitats.
These include the unique veld type called Golela, which is an important Suni antelope breeding habitat.
The species rich Lobombo Mountain forests found in deep moist soils in the south-east facing valleys and slopes on the eastern side of the reserve, and the western savannah with Themeda grassveld dotted with knobthorns and maroela trees.
The area boasts a bird list of over 300 species and a range of plains game including white rhino, giraffe, blue wildebeest, kudu, impala, nyala, warthog, waterbuck, common and mountain reedbuck and zebra.
The dam has large populations of hippos and crocodiles and fish species that include tigerfish, the focus of a number of fishing competitions through the year.
Phongolo has been declared a resource reserve and will be offering sport hunting this year on a range of species. Facilities include a rustic campsite on the edge of the water equipped with cold showers and flush toilets. This campsite, set on green lawns under large acacia trees, can accommodate 120 people in 15 sites.
Nesta área protegida encontramos 35 girafas, aproximadamente.
Spioenkop Mountain stands sentry over thorn savannah and water where visitors can see panoramas that stretch from hot valley bushveld across cool water to the Drakensberg Mountains often covered in snow in the winter.
Steeped in Anglo Boer War history, the reserve boasts a rich selection of wildlife including white rhinocerous, girafa and a variety of plains and bushveld antelope.
Spioenkop Mountain is the site of the infamous Battle of Spioenkop which took place in 1900 where the British suffered one of their worst defeats of that period.
The Battlefield is accessible by road and the 360 degree view from the summit can only be described as spectacular. From the reserve there are views of the Drakensberg Mountains which extend from Giants Castle, to the Sentinal in Royal Natal National Park.
Tembe Elephant Reserve...
Reserva Tala
All the giraffe pictures on this page were taken at Tala Game Reserve, near Durban on South Africa's east coast. This private nature reserve's mix of thorn trees and open grassland supports a diversity of wildlife and offers good opportunities for taking pictures of giraffe, zebra and a variety of antelope.
Tala is unique in that it is surrounded by farms and other development, yet much of this is hidden once you are in the game reserve. If you're ever in Durban and are pressed for time, this game sanctuary is definitely worth a visit. It's also situated in a malaria-free area, which is a huge bonus for the fleeting visitor who wants to avoid taking anti-malarial medication.

The distant blue hills and undulating thornveld valleys of KwaZulu-Natal make a superb backdrop for the scenic Weenen Game Reserve. With the Bushmans River flowing through a spectacular gorge in the reserve, Weenen's excellent road system and walking trails, visitors have many scenic and game viewing opportunities as they walk or drive around the reserve.
Both black and white rhino have been introduced since the 5.000 ha reserve was proclaimed in 1974. Other re-introduced game includes giraffe, buffalo, red hartebeest, eland, zebra, klipspringer, ostrich, common reedbuck, and roan antelope.
